Step into the World of Cowboy Games: Unleash Your Inner Wrangler

Are you ready to trade in your deck of cards for some good ol’ cowboy games? At our ranch, we believe that the spirit of the Wild West lives on through these classic pastimes that have entertained wranglers for generations. So, grab your boots and join our playful staff for an evening of fun and laughter as you learn the ropes of these iconic cowboy games.

Axe Throwing: Test Your Aim and Precision

In the tradition of Cowboys and Indians, you’ll step up to the line and aim at the target with your trusty axe. It’s all about accuracy and precision as you channel your inner frontiersman and try to hit that bullseye. The satisfying thud of the axe finding its mark is a feeling like no other.

Cowpie Toss: Pitch That “Pie” Like a Pro

Now, don’t let the name fool you; we’re not throwing actual cowpies! Instead, you’ll be tossing a faux “pie” into a barrel stave ring. We even provide gloves for those who might be a tad squeamish. It’s all about that perfect throw, that moment when your aim is true, and your pie lands right where it should.

Bucking Barrel: Hold on Tight!

Ever wondered what it feels like to ride a buckin’ bronc? Our wranglers have got you covered. They’ll give the barrel a good “buck” to create the sensation of a real rodeo ride. Hang tight and see if you have what it takes to stay in the saddle.

Horseshoes: Aim for the Ringer

Pitching horseshoes is a true cowboy classic. Try your hand at this age-old game, where the goal is to land a “ringer” or at least get a “leaner.” It’s a test of accuracy and finesse, and it’s bound to get your competitive spirit going.

Roping Lessons: Become a Lasso Pro

Ever watched a professional cowboy effortlessly throw a loop? Now’s your chance to learn the art of roping from our experienced wranglers. Keep an eye out, though; our “cow” may have a tendency to pull to the left. It’s all part of the challenge!

Box Hockey: The Cowboy Foosball

For a high-energy workout that’s pure cowboy fun, try your hand at box hockey. It’s like foosball, but with broomsticks, and it’s guaranteed to get your heart racing. Battle it out with your friends in this exciting game of skill and strategy.

Sling Shots: Ancient Weaponry, Modern Fun

Step back in time and try your hand at using one of the world’s oldest weapons – the slingshot. Test your marksmanship as you aim for targets and experience the thrill of launching projectiles with precision.

Goat Dressing: Fun and Quirky Competition

In this unique cowboy competition, two teams face off to see who can catch a goat and dress it in an oversized t-shirt and shorts in the shortest time possible. Rest assured, our furry participants are well taken care of, and keeping their shorts on is all part of the challenge!

Hay Bale Hauling Relay: A Test of Strength

If you’re up for a physical challenge, the hay bale hauling relay is the game for you. Teams compete to see how quickly they can carry a 100 lb. bale of hay across the arena. You can enlist the help of your friends, but remember, it’s one bale at a time!

So, whether you’re a seasoned wrangler or a city slicker looking for a taste of cowboy life, our ranch offers a range of entertaining games that will transport you to the heart of the Wild West. Come join us for an unforgettable evening of laughter, camaraderie, and good old-fashioned cowboy competition. Giddy up!

Marilyn Gubler: A Cowgirl’s Tale in the Heart of the Southwest

In the heart of the desert Southwest, where the wind whispers through the Joshua trees and the mountains stand jagged and proud, a remarkable woman has found her own slice of cowboy heaven. Marilyn Gubler, a Nevada native with a passion for the rugged charm of the Old West, has traded the hustle and bustle of politics for a life in the saddle on her 160-acre Sandy Valley Ranch.

Marilyn Gubler - The Boss Lady

A Western Spirit at Heart

Born in 1944, the same year Las Vegas had a mere 10,000 residents, Marilyn grew up in a very different Sin City. Cattle once roamed the streets, and she and her friends would occasionally trot to school on horseback. Her parents, Maxwell and Laura Belle Kelch, were pioneers in their own right, transforming Las Vegas into a thriving tourist destination.

Maxwell, a towering man at 6-foot-4, had always dreamt of running his own radio station. Alongside Laura Belle, a Cincinnati-born watercolor artist and community advocate, they launched KENO radio in 1936, helping shape the city’s identity. Las Vegas was a town with a can-do attitude, and Marilyn inherited that spirit.

From Politics to Ranch Life

Marilyn’s journey led her into the world of politics, where she made her mark as a tough-minded political consultant and the first female chairman of the Nevada Republican party. Her wit and tenacity made her a force to be reckoned with. Even when she was forced out of her position by Senator Paul Laxalt in 1984, Marilyn fought back with a “I Got the Boot” party, overshadowing his own celebration.

She consulted for politicians from both sides of the aisle, always picking the dark horse and helping them succeed. Her sense of humor remained intact, as she once cleverly quipped that her client wasn’t indicted yet when others were facing charges.

The Cowboy Life Beckons

After a career in politics, Marilyn sold her five-acre Roadrunner Ranch and sought a new adventure. A fateful invitation led her to Sandy Valley, an hour outside Vegas, where she discovered a vast expanse of undeveloped land. The allure of this untouched desert landscape was irresistible.

On her Ranch, Marilyn’s passion project took root. Initially envisioned as a working dude ranch and corporate retreat, it quickly grew into a haven for tourists seeking a taste of the Cowboy Life. The ranch hosted corporate events for major companies like Microsoft, Nike France, and Louis Vuitton, all eager to experience the Western way of life.

Embracing Mexican Rodeo

In recent years, Marilyn expanded the ranch’s horizons by embracing Mexican rodeo, known as charreria. This unexpected love affair led her to host up to 10 rodeo events a year on her ranch. Initially puzzled by this well-heeled white ranch owner with a passion for their culture, the local Latino cowboys now affectionately call her the “Boss Lady.”

Marilyn’s daughter, Laura Dahl, aptly describes her as a strong woman who has always held her own, whether in politics or on the ranch. Her ability to connect with people from all walks of life and her relentless pursuit of what she loves set her apart.

The Second Chance Ranch

Marilyn’s ranch is aptly named the “Second Chance Ranch,” where she offers promising cowboys opportunities despite their questionable pasts. Her commitment to the rodeo events, especially the all-female Escaramuza, highlights her reverence for the rich cultural heritage and the sheer beauty of the skill on display.

At 75, Marilyn shows no signs of slowing down. She splits her time between her Summerlin home and the ranch, constantly in motion, with more energy than people half her age. Her husband, Tommy DiGiacomo, marvels at her boundless enthusiasm and daily planner, which he needs to keep up with her ever-active schedule.

In the quiet desert expanse of Sandy Valley, where Marilyn Gubler now sits in the big saddle, her story is a testament to the enduring spirit of the West, where a woman with a twang in her DNA can reinvent herself and embrace a life-rich in adventure and cultural appreciation.

Marilyn and Laura

The Boss Lady’s Legacy

As the sun sets over the Joshua trees and the mountains, Marilyn Gubler, the Boss Lady of Sandy Valley, remains a beacon of determination and grit. Her journey from Nevada politics to the heart of the desert Southwest is a testament to the power of reinvention, the love of the land, and the enduring allure of the Cowboy Life.

It’s Kidding Season and Our Ranch is Overflowing with 25 Adorable Baby Goats!

Welcome to our ranch, where kidding season is in full swing and we are thrilled to announce the arrival of 25 baby goats! Our ranch is home to a variety of farm animals including chickens, pigs, and of course horses, but there’s something special about welcoming new kids into the world. We are excited to share our experience with you and provide you with valuable information about our adorable baby goats.

goats kids ranch

Breeds of Baby Goats

At our ranch, we raise several different breeds of goats, each with its own unique characteristics. Some of the most popular breeds include Nubians, Alpines, and LaManchas. Nubians are known for their large, floppy ears and gentle nature. Alpines are hardy and adaptable, making them a great choice for most farms. LaManchas have short ears and are known for their calm and friendly personalities.

Kidding Season

Kidding season is the time of year when baby goats are born, usually in the early spring. Our ranch prepares for kidding season by ensuring our goats are in good health and have plenty of space and resources to give birth and care for their young. During this time, we monitor our pregnant goats closely and provide any necessary medical care to ensure a safe and healthy delivery.

Caring for Baby Goats

At our ranch, we take great care to ensure that our baby goats receive the best possible care. We provide them with plenty of space to play and explore, and make sure they have access to fresh food and water at all times. Our goats receive regular veterinary care to ensure they stay healthy and happy.

We believe that socialization is an essential part of raising happy and healthy goats. Our baby goats are raised with their mothers and other goats in a herd, which helps them develop important social skills. We also spend time with our baby goats every day, playing with them and giving them plenty of attention and affection.

We hope you have enjoyed learning about our baby goats and the care we provide for them at our ranch. We believe that raising goats is a rewarding and fulfilling experience, and we are proud to share our knowledge and experience with others.

Whether you are a seasoned goat farmer or just starting out, we encourage you to consider adding goats to your farm or homestead. They are truly one of nature’s most fascinating and entertaining animals!

Saddle Up: Exploring the Majestic Old Spanish Trail on Horseback

The historical significance of our area never fails to amaze us. Recently, during our research, we stumbled upon an intriguing fact that made our hearts race – the renowned old Spanish Trail that was created in the 1500s by Spanish conquistadors to claim California and its gold may have passed through our Nevada locale and perhaps even through our Ranch itself.

Over time, the Spanish Trail evolved into a major trade route, connecting New Mexico and California. Imagine mule trains, consisting of up to a hundred mules, transporting vibrant Indian blankets to California to trade for horses.

As the Spanish-American War erupted in the early 1800s, brave souls like Kit Carson and John C. Fremont traversed this path. As the century progressed, the Spanish Trail was trodden by a plethora of adventurers including farmers, families, prospectors, and armies – all journeying West in search of new beginnings.

Each time I embark on a ride along this trail, my thoughts wander towards the traders, pioneers, and gold-seekers of yore who contributed towards shaping the foundations of our beloved American West.
